SONGBOOK
The interactive map shown here constitutes the Liverpool: Fragments 'songbook'. It may be added to by anyone with a connection to this location, at any time. In order to contribute, you simply need to answer the question: 'What aspects of Liverpool make you proud to live here?' by either:
1) Providing a short written or spoken answer to this question (3-15 words as a rough guide), to be used as libretto.
2) Setting a libretto for the voice (each libretto can be set more than once).
3)Submitting a sound recording pertinent to your relationship with the Liverpool area.
4)Performing and/or recording one of the vocal 'fragments' .
Options 1, 2 and 3 can be added directly onto the interactive map by clicking 'edit' on the webpage. If you are submitting a libretto, place a location marker as close to your home location as you feel comfortable, and type your libretto into the textbox that appears. If you are setting a 'fragment', submit your completed score as a single-lined image on the corresponding libretto's location: more than one image can be submitted on each marker. If you are submitting a sound recording, place a location marker as close to your home location as you feel comfortable, and use the text record option to submit your sound file. If you have chosen to record a pre-existing libretto, and would like this to be included in the recording soundbank to be used within future interventions, please send this directly to me through the form on the CONTACT page. PLEASE BE AWARE that, by contributing to the Fragments: project, you are agreeing to your contribution remaining in the public domain, and being used within Interventions in the Fragments: Liverpool project. Any questions or problems, please get in touch via the CONTACT page.
PLEASE NOTE:
The 'fragments' on the map may appear blurry at first: clicking on the 'fragment' to expand the image to fill the size of your screen should solve this. If you are hoping to perform, record, or study a 'fragment' in detail, it is advised to use the compilation of 'fragments' songbook contributions available to download in PDF format below: this is updated regularly, and also contains additional information on notation. For ease of navigation, it is best to open the interactive map in its own virtual window.
INTERVENTIONS
Two arrangements, combining the first round of entries from the Liverpool: Fragments songbook, designed to be sounded through the speaker system of Liverpool Lime Street Station.
The first Intervention of the Fragments: Liverpool project is in the form of two Arrangements. After conducting analysis on common themes between people’s pride of place from the first iteration of Liverpool: Fragments songbook contributions, the two most prominent recurring themes were a love of the City Centre, and a love of the abundance of water surrounding the Liverpool region. Therefore, the two arrangements musically emulate the excitement of the city centre, and the joy created by proximity to open water, respectively. Both arrangements combine samples from the recording bank of the Fragments: Liverpool songbook relevant to their respective themes.
These arrangements have been written to be broadcast through the speaker system of Liverpool Lime Street Train Station: talks are currently taking place to have these two arrangements broadcast in Liverpool Lime Street in 2025. To view the scores, please click the button below.
